FROM TIM WEBSTER
To all Alpine and Tiger enthusiasts.
I
am working on a little project with a couple of fellows I know from the
Tiger online forum. The idea is to recreate a few sets of the bases that
were used to mount the “Sparto” reverse lights that were a stock
accessory on our cars.
My
research indicates that they were mainly fitted to early Alpines and
Tigers. They are listed in the Book of Norman as a stock accessory and (in
my opinion at least) are very cool looking.
These
lights are quite rare. The bases are even rarer. My American friends have
built a prototype of the bases and would like to produce a few sets.
Unfortunately they are labour intensive to make as they have a rather
complex shape to match the contours of the rear valance.. Obviously the
more folks that sign on the cheaper the cost will become although they
will still be pricey.
If
any of you are interested in getting a set of these now would be a good
chance. It is not something you would want to undertake on your own as it
would be cost prohibitive.
Another
interesting angle on this is where the correct “factory” mounting
position might have been. The is a picture in the B of N the has them
inboard the overriders. On the other hand check out the attached picture
from an early accessory brochure that has them way on the outside. As far
as I can figure this picture is a drawing so may have been subject to
artistic license. Please check out the other photos.
If
you have any input to provide or are interested in securing a set now
might be the time.
